HOUSTON WILSON, PhD
Dr. Houston Wilson is an Assistant Cooperative Extension Specialist in the Dept. Entomology at the University of California, Riverside. More recently, he also became the Director of the newly created UC Organic Agriculture Institute. Houston received his Ph.D. from the Dept. Environmental Science, Policy and Management at UC Berkeley, where he trained as an agroecologist with emphasis in entomology, biological control and landscape ecology. Now located in the San Joaquin Valley at the UC Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center, the Wilson Lab is an applied agricultural entomology group that strives to develop scientifically-based, cost-effective pest management strategies that can improve the environmental quality of crop production in orchards and vineyards. Current projects focus on the use of such non-chemical strategies as mating disruption, sterile insect technique, and conservation biological control in a diverse array of crops that includes almonds, pistachios, walnuts, figs and wine grapes.
